Last week (April 13), we saw two big-time releases that both dropped in surprising fashion. Tyler, the Creator released Cherry Bomb, his fourth studio album, after announcing its release only a week prior. A more contentious project came from Young Thug, who, days before the release date, changed his Carter 6 to Barter 6 due to legal threats from Lil Wayne. Here are the first week numbers for both.
Cherry Bomb made it to #3 on the charts, selling just under 50k (56k including streams), making it #1 among all hip-hop albums. Young Thug's album leaked a day before its April 17 release date, and it landed lower on the charts at #15, selling just under 16k (over 18k with streams). A day after the relase, though, Thug confirmed Barter was a mixtape--his debut album will be called Hy!£UN35 (read: Hi-Tunes), and will be out August 28.
