12-Year-Old Rapper From Viral Video Faces Felony Charges

Corey "Lil C Note" Jackson was arrested while visiting a Georgia mall.

In October 2018, a video of an encounter between a child and a police officer went viral. In the clip, 12-year-old Corey "Lil C Note" Jackson is seen being strong-armed by the officer while visiting the Cumberland Mall in Cobb County, Georgia after he was accused of illegally selling his CDs. Police claim that Jackson was warned, twice, to stop hawking his mixtapes before the last incident occurred. Off camera and recording, Jackson's aunt is heard pleading with the officer to let the boy go, stating that Jackson's father was on the phone.

“You’re 12?” the officer said to Jackson. "You’re about to go to jail. You’re going to go to a youth detention center." The aunt says, “I have his father on the phone and you won’t even speak to him,” before the officer replies, “Yup." What immediately happens next isn't clear from the footage, but a scuffle ensues and the cell phone recording the incident is knocked away. The officer then calls for backup and warns the aunt not to "put her hands on" him again, while she cries out that he needs to let her nephew free.

Jackson was arrested following the altercation and faces charges of criminal trespassing, obstruction, and disorderly conduct with violence. The young boy's lawyer, Mawuli Davis, stated that Jackson did nothing wrong and wasn't even selling CDs while at the mall. Meanwhile, Jackson shared a news segment about his recent trip to court. In the caption to the uploaded video, Jackson said he's "ready for it to be over."

"Seriously like I really wake up every day asking myself why would this police officer tell these Ludacris /ridiculous stories on me that now have me having to go to court facing a felony at 12 years old," Jackson wrote. "As if I’m really a robber, killer / Murderer or some kid that cuss out and fight police officers or something! Like I’m just so for real I just don’t understand why a man would do this & have me going through all this!!"
