His arraignment was scheduled the day after he died.

Hip hop has been in a continuous state of mourning throughout 2019, including grieving the loss of battle rapper Tech 9 (not to be confused with Tech N9ne) last week. The 32-year-old's death on March 24 sent shockwaves throughout his hometown of Philadelphia and beyond, with rappers like Meek Mill, Lupe Fiasco, and Denzel Curry all expressing their condolences on social media.

A cause of death has yet to be announced, however, Philadelphia Magazine reports that the day after Tech 9, real name Akhiym Mickens, passed away, he was scheduled to be arraigned on charges of possession of child pornography, indecent assault, indecent exposure and corruption of minors, and other offenses. Mickens was reportedly arrested on January 5 and according to court documents, he was facing accusations from the daughter of a woman that he was dating.

Philadelphia Magazine reports that the girl detailed the sexual abuse she allegedly endured by Mickens to investigators. She claims that Mickens demanded she undress in front of him before he would masturbate in front of her. She also told police that Mickens once forced his way into her bedroom by using a knife and then attempted to coerce her into touching his genitals.

Following Mickens' death, many on social media confused him with Tech N9ne, causing the masses to believe that the latter had died. Tech N9ne took to social media to clear up the rumors. “Condolences to the battle rapper Tech 9,” he said. “He’s been battling for years. I’ve observed many a battle of his. Condolences to the family...My family is calling my phone wondering if I’m OK. I’m OK. My condolences go out to the battle rapper, Tech 9. Philly, stand up."
